Position Summary

Team Summary
The Fund Management (FM) team executes the Chief Financial Officer function for a given Carlyle product or fund. The FM team is responsible for all aspects of fund financial forecasting, performance optimization, transaction execution, risk management, and portfolio monitoring. Equally important is the FM team's role in ideation, design, and crafting of messaging and executive-level presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

The FM team collaborates with Carlyle's investment teams to analyze and optimize fund performance, connects with Carlyle's legal and compliance professionals to analyze and assess fund and investment-level risks, and supports Carlyle's investor relations team in managing relationships with key external stakeholders.

Successful members of the FM team are highly adaptable and able to shift gears quickly, often juggling many high-profile priorities under tight deadlines. They have a superior work ethic and embrace that the fast-paced, dynamic nature of our business often requires commitment outside of normal business hours. The FM team is a collection of very detail-oriented self-starters that possess intellectual curiosity and an ability to think creatively.

Position Summary
The FM Analyst role is designed for early-career professionals looking to transition from accounting or financing reporting into a more analytical, finance-oriented role within private equity.

The FM Analyst will work closely with senior FM team leaders and Carlyle Asia investment professionals to support performance reporting, transaction execution, and fund-level analysis. Over time, the role provides the opportunity to build a strong foundation in financial modeling, valuation concepts, and investment / fund-related decision making.

The role is well-suited for candidates who are intellectually curious, eager to learn, and interested in developing the skillset required to operate in a high-performance finance organization.

In-Office Requirement: 4 days per week

Responsibilities

The role offers broad exposure across financial forecasting, performance analysis, transaction execution, and internal and external reporting. Key responsibilities include:
  • Partner with senior FM team leaders to design and prepare presentations summarizing the performance of Carlyle Asia funds and portfolio companies to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collect and critically assess projections of investment-level exit valuations prepared by Carlyle's investment professionals. Synthesize the data into a narrative at the investment and fund-level.
  • Support the design and preparation of executive-level reporting and narratives around projected fund performance and distribution timing.
  • Review and evaluate quarterly valuations for fund portfolio companies prepared by investment teams. Own and manage the organization and retention of quarterly valuation deliverables and related supporting documentation.
  • Partner with senior FM team leaders to plan, communicate, and operationalize the funding of investment acquisitions and dispositions. This includes reviewing calculations, preparing internal schedules to facilitate communications, drafting messaging for investor capital calls and distributions, and project-managing the execution of the acquisition or disposition transaction.
  • Ad-hoc responsibilities as assigned, potentially including:
    • Collect, analyze, and synthesize performance metrics into takeaways for FM team leaders.
    • Review portfolio company operational updates and other financial analysis and research.
    • Design and prepare presentations for meetings with investment team executives.
    • Support fundraising, including ideation, design, and preparation of marketing materials and responses to due diligence requests.
    • Respond to internal stakeholder and external investor requests for information on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

Education & Certificates
  • Bachelors Degree, required
  • Finance, Accounting, or Engineering concentration, preferred
Professional Experience
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of relevant professional experience, required
  • Financial Services experience preferred

Competencies & Attributes
  • Strong accounting or financial background with the capability and desire to learn the financial and analytical principles related to private equity
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (including Excel and PowerPoint) skills required
  • Ability to operate in a demanding and fast paced environment and balance multiple tasks
  • Significant overtime as well as availability outside of normal business hours required frequently, especially during quarterly valuation cycles, in connection with deal closings and during fundraising periods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with an ownership mentality
  • Strong interpersonal skills a must
  • Well-rounded with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High integrity and dedication to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary material

Benefits/Compensation
The compensation range for this role is specific to Washington, DC and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000.

In addition to the base salary, the hired professional will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package spanning retirement benefits, health insurance, life insurance and disability, paid time off, paid holidays, family planning benefits and various wellness programs. Additionally, the hired professional may also be eligible to participate in an annual discretionary incentive program, the award of which will be dependent on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
