Job Role: Customer Assistance Support Operative
Location : Southampton Railway Station
Pay Rate: £12.71
Dates: Immediate start - 18 week contract
Shifts: 7:00am - 7:00pm (12 hours) Mon-Sun
The Customer Assistance Support Operative will provide essential support to passengers during the period in which station lifts are out of service for renewal. The postholder will assist customers with luggage, buggies, and mobility-related needs, ensuring safe movement throughout the station and maintaining a high standard of customer service.
Please note:
Ontrak UK LTD is a temporary agency who recruit candidates for projects and temp roles. This means we are solely depending on the clients requests and this is subject to change weekly. Hours each week can differ and you could receive up to 72 hours a week, but this is never guaranteed. Projects can come to an end whenever the client requests it to and hours can reduce at any point they ask.

Due to this position being customer-facing, we have a statutory duty (under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that all post holders have a sufficient command of spoken English/Welsh to effectively meet the job requirements.
What does a Customer Assistance Support Operative do?
- Provide physical assistance to customers requiring help with luggage, pushchairs/buggies, and other personal items.
- Support passengers with reduced mobility in navigating stairs and alternative routes while lifts are unavailable.
- Deliver clear and accurate information regarding temporary access arrangements, diversions, and station layout changes.
- Maintain effective communication with station staff, Adecco personnel, and SWR teams to ensure coordinated customer support.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and operational guidelines, ensuring that assistance is delivered in a safe and compliant manner.
- Monitor customer flow and proactively offer assistance where required.
- Report incidents, hazards, or customer concerns promptly to station management.
- Represent the station and organisation professionally, maintaining a courteous and customer‑focused approach at all times.
There are some hurdles of course….
· You must be able to get to your location of work for a 5am start and the latest finish could be as late as1am. Most shifts are around 8 hours but there is an opportunity to work up to 12 hours!
· You will need to pass a Drugs and Alcohol Medical.
· You will need to pass a DBS.
· You will need to provide valid Identification, work permit (if applicable) and proof of National Insurance.
· You must have previous exceptional customer services experience in a similar position.
· Must be flexible to work shifts times, earlies, lates and weekends. You will be on a rota basis.
· Must be available immediately as these are temporary ongoing positions.
- Ability to safely lift and carry luggage and assist with buggies and mobility equipment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Physically able to lift and carry luggage and assist with buggies safely.
- Ability to follow safety instructions and work collaboratively within a team.
- A proactive and approachable manner, with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
