Energy Supply Operations Specialist (hybrid)
About the position
The Energy Supply Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in a high-performance team, providing technical and leadership support to various internal departments. This position focuses on optimizing gas and electric service delivery while ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability for customers. The specialist will engage in supply planning, demand balancing, and regulatory support, contributing to the corporate goal of safe and reliable energy service.
Responsibilities
- Develop short and long-term supply plans using complex computer-based modeling software.
- Make recommendations for daily balancing of demand and supply to ensure optimum daily dispatch of assets.
- Provide weekend/holiday coverage for supply and demand imbalances and execute communications regarding daily operations.
- Conduct daily or monthly reconciliations of hedge accounts, including invoicing and reporting of gains or losses.
- Provide accurate daily system forecasts and assess forecast model performance and accuracy.
- Perform in-depth analyses to evaluate NiSource's portfolio of supply and capacity options.
- Develop and perform ad hoc analysis and forecasting for various departments.
- Provide projections of gas/energy unit and cost information for regulatory filings and support for regulatory processes.
- Oversee performance and adequacy of software systems and identify enhancements to support business needs.
- Analyze data related to commodity prices, weather, demand, and other variables influencing supply and demand.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for regulatory processes and compliance filings.
- Support internal and external resources for the company's capacity/energy needs outlined in its Integrated Resource Plan.
Requirements
- BS/BA in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience.
- Strong leadership skills and initiative in a team-oriented environment.
- Proven presentation, verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macro creation, statistical analysis).
- Ability to collaborate in a hybrid working environment.
Nice-to-haves
- Master of Business Administration, Business Analytics, Accountancy, or equivalent graduate degree.
- Two to three years of experience in the utility industry specific to electric/natural gas markets.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Experience with process improvement, Six Sigma, and/or project management.
- Experience with SPSS, SAS, Python, Microsoft Access, and SQL.
