Software Engineer - API and Client Libraries

Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain new features for the DeepL API on our backend services, collaborating with multiple engineering teams
- Develop and maintain open-source client libraries for the DeepL API in several programming languages
- Contribute to monitoring the API services in production, e.g. by defining expressive metrics and ensuring informative logs
Requirements
- Proficiency in a modern programming language with solid experience in backend development
- Experience with the design of Web APIs
- Solid understanding of algorithmic complexity and common data structures
- Effective and pragmatic; able to weigh between 'perfect' and 'good enough' depending on priorities and business impact
- Ability to explain complex ideas and designs to developers with a wide variety of experience and backgrounds
- Fluent in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus
- Comfortable with a hybrid working model and able to come into the New York office regularly (3x per week)
Nice-to-haves
- Exposure to or familiarity with our tech stack (C#, React, TypeScript) or similar technologies would be beneficial but is not a strict requirement
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies quickly
